Get Tested NZ, the National Online STI Testing Service
A website where you can request a (free) test for chlamydia, gonorrhoea, HIV, and syphilis.
About Get Tested NZ
Get Tested NZ is Aotearoa New Zealand’s national online STI testing service. It's funded by Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora and run by Sexual Wellbeing Aotearoa (formerly Family Planning New Zealand). This is an inclusive, confidential service where you can request free tests for chlamydia, gonorrhoea, HIV, and syphilis. This includes self-tests you can do at home.
Anyone can use the Request a Test service if they don’t have symptoms of an STI, and they are eligible for publicly funded healthcare in Aotearoa New Zealand.
If you do have symptoms or you’d rather go to a clinic or laboratory, you can find a provider near you to take an STI test.
Get Tested NZ also provides information about sexually transmissible infections (STIs), STI testing, treatment, and prevention, support for people with STIs, and training on STI testing for professionals and peers.
Connecting people with information, services, and support
Get Tested NZ was introduced to improve access to STI testing and treatment, and to help people get the information, services, and support they need to be healthy and well.
Get Tested NZ provides this website, web chat, and a free phone number (0508 438 8378), so people can find out about STIs and how to access STI testing, treatment, prevention, and support. The web chat and phone line are staffed by clinicians specialised in sexual and reproductive health.
We also provide a request a test service, where people without symptoms can order free laboratory or self-tests for some STIs: chlamydia, gonorrhoea, HIV, and syphilis.
Why is the online test ordering service only for some STIs?
The request a test service provides free testing for four STIs: chlamydia, gonorrhoea, HIV, and syphilis. These tests are only available to people who don’t have symptoms.
The idea for Get Tested NZ began in 2023 when the Ministry of Health – Manatū Hauora published the National HIV Action Plan for Aotearoa New Zealand 2023-2030. At the core of the plan was the goal to eliminate HIV transmission. A priority within the Action Plan was to expand testing for HIV and other targeted STIs (chlamydia, gonorrhoea, and syphilis). The National Online STI Testing Service and Get Tested NZ website is one of the initiatives designed to do that.
